Established in 2020, Fleece Records is a sister business of Ship & Plough Tavern. We've produced two albums under the Fleece Records label: 'Interlake All-Stars' by various artists, and 'Small Eclipse' by local artist Van Allen (Scott Petrowski).

We've also amassed a huge collection of records, with a strong Manitoba focus. Our goal is to help promote, celebrate, and archive the talent of local, independent artists!

SOME GIMLI MUSICAL MOMENTS

1960s

The Guess Who played the Gimli Legion on April 30, 1966. The band consisted of: Chad Allan (vocals, rhythm guitar), Randy Bachman (lead guitar), Jim Kale (bass), Gary Peterson (drums), and Bob Ashley (keyboards). This lineup already achieved significant success in 1965 with hits like "Shakin' All Over," which reached #22 on the Billboard charts.

The Gimli Legion show marked part of the band's final months with Chad Allan, who would leave the group later in 1966. Despite his departure, The Guess Who would go on to achieve even greater success with Burton Cummings taking over vocals.

1990s

In the early to mid-1990s, Gimli left its mark on the summer festival circuit. Sunfest ran for six consecutive years, from 1990 to 1996, at Gimli Motorsport Park. It featured some of the best in Canadian music: The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo, Sass Jordan, Crash Test Dummies, Barenaked Ladies, Randy Bachman, Tom Cochrane, The Tea Party, The Watchmen, 54-40, Skydiggers, and many more!

In 1993, Sunfest broke with tradition and brought in a non-Canadian headliner. About 20,000 people braved the muddy fields to watch Pearl Jam (pictured) - one of the top touring acts in the world at the time.

2000s

In 2012, Little House released its one and only, self-titled LP. The band consisted of Benjiman Figler, Micah Erenberg, Cory Hykawy, and Daniel Diamond. Micah (pictured) went on to pursue a solo career, and eventually adopted the moniker The Secret Beach. He earned a Juno award nomination in 2025.

Jodi Dunlop from The Paps joined forces with Stefanie Blondal Johnson to form Mise en Scene, which released Desire's Despair in 2012 and now has four albums to its credit. Both The Secret Beach and Mise en Scene have performed at venues around the world!
